Home > News Shots > World newsWith cold winters and heavy snowfall, a 12-year-old girl was found alive after she was buried under snow for 18 hours. The girl was trapped under an avalanche in Pakistan-administered Kashmir that engulfed the family house.
The girl has been identified as Samina Bibi, who recalled screaming and shouting for help as she lay trapped under the snow. After being rescued, she told Reuters from a hospital bed in Muzaffarabad that "I thought I would die there."
She could not sleep while she waited to be rescued. Her leg was fractured and blood was oozing from her mouth. Along with the girl, several others were also receiving treatment at the hospital after being airlifted.
According to Aljazeera reports, the worst affected area was Kashmir's Neelum Valley. 21 bodies have been retrieved so far from this area. Currently, rescuers are reaching scores of people who are said to be trapped inside their homes.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority said that the total number of deaths in snow-hit areas across the country is over 100.
