Yahoo Groups to Shutdown Operations; Last Date Announced to backup Data
Home > News Shots > Technology newsThe Verizon-owned tech company Yahoo will stop uploading content on the Yahoo Groups site, thus marking an end to 18 years of operations. According to ET, Yahoo groups which was started in 2001 will shut down operations on December 14, 2019, post which all the groups will be turned into private and existing content will be wiped out. Therefore users are requested to download the data within the specified time.
"Privacy is critical and we have taken this decision to better align with our overall principles. If you would like to keep any of the content you've posted or stored in your Yahoo Group, please download it by December 14," Yahoo Groups quoted in its email to the users.
The photos and files could be stored from the Yahoo Groups Site or downloaded from the Privacy Dashboard as per the company's statement. Reportedly Yahoo groups have taken the change in internet trends into consideration and have decided to migrate its users to the email platform.
It has to be mentioned that Yahoo introduced a new version of its E-mail App with optimized inboxes for the users. While new groups could still be formed using the email platform, the shutdown of Yahoo groups definitely has a greater impact on the evolving smartphone technologies.
