Home > News Shots > Sports newsSpeaking to ABP News, Former India Captain Kapil Dev on Friday described MS Dhoni’s decision to join the Indian army as an inspirational step.
“MS Dhoni took a massive decision, which will inspire the youth of the nation. I feel every youth in the country should spend some time in the army. Spending time with the Army will help the country and introduce youth to new learnings.”, the 1983 World Cup winning Skipper said.
Dhoni relieved himself from the India tour of West Indies saying that he needs a two-month break to serve his Army regiment. He holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA battalion) which was accorded to him by the Indian Army in 2011 along with Shooter Abhinav Bindra and Military Trainer Deepak Rao.
In a statement on Thursday, the Indian Army said that Dhoni will undertake the duties of patrolling, guard and post duty for about 15 days in Kashmir. He will be officially joining the Army from July 31.
