IPL 2020: BCCI to Discuss with Franchises; Awaits Govt decision on Lockdown!

Likewise, Indian cricket fans were deeply saddened by the news of postponement of IPL in view of the global pandemic. Recently the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that it awaits for the government’s decision on lockdowns due to Coronavirus before taking a call about IPL. "As of now IPL is postponed till April 15, we will wait for government decision and take a call accordingly," a BCCI source told ANI.
States like Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana and Punjab have already announced extension of the Lockdown in order to fight COVID- 19. The Lockdown is anticipated to be extended in other states as well but the nation continues to wait till official information from the respective state governments and central government is released.
When asked about the possibilities of IPL taking place amid various states extending its lockdowns, the source said: "As of now, I cannot comment on it. In the coming few days, we might talk to franchises again but as of now, no decision has been made. We are closely monitoring the situation."
The Indian Premiere League was scheduled to begin on March 29th. IPL is the not the only sports event that was affected due to the corona crisis. 2020 Tokyo Olympics, World Indoor championships in athletics, Champions league & Europa league in football and NBA in basketball are few among many global and national sports events that have been temporarily postponed or suspended.
