Earthquake tremors jolt the National Capital Region
Home > News Shots > India newsMild earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi and other parts of North India. In Delhi, the earthquake hit around 5:45 pm on Sunday. The epicenter of the earthquake is identified to be in Rajatpur in Pakistan. The earthquake is said to have lasted only for 4 to 5 seconds. No loss of life or property has been reported so far. As per Media reports (The New Indian Express), tremors were felt in East Delhi and measured 3.5 on the richter scale. Sathyanarayan Pradhan, the DG of National Disaster Response Force tweeted the details of the earthquake at NCT Delhi in the National Capital Region. “Occurred on:12-04-2020, 17:45:03 IST, Latitude: 28.7 N and Longitude: 77.2 E, Depth: 8 Km, Region: NCT Delhi," the tweet read.
Panic stricken residents reportedly rushed down from their residences. Earthquakes within the scale of 3.0- 3.9 is categorized as minor where people usually feel the tremors and notice the shaking of indoor objects but it very rarely causes damage. People have been requested not to panic and maintain social distancing rules. “Tremors felt in Delhi. Hope everyone is safe. I pray for the safety of each one of you.”, a tweet from Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejirwal read. #earthquake is trending in New Delhi with more than 30,000 people tweeting about it.
