Student Critically Injured After Hammer Falls On Head At Sports Event
Home > News Shots > India newsIn a shocking case, a 17-year-old school student was critically injured after a hammer hit his head during the hammer throw sports event at the State Junior Athletic Meet near Pala in Kerala.
The Plus One student sustained serious injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital. The boy has been identified as Abheel Johnson, a student of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School.
According to The Hindu report, the accident took place around 12 noon on Friday. The boy was struck with a hammer thrown by one of the competitors. Minutes later, he was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam, and had to be admitted in the ICU.
When media contacted hospital staff, they said that the young boy had to undergo an emergency surgery and is said to be critical.
According to an eyewitnesses, Abheel, who was also a volunteer at the event; was seen moving around between the fields marked for javelin and hammer throw events. Suddenly, the hammer which was weighing around 3 kg fell on him from a distance of 35 metres.
Within seconds, Abheel fell to the ground and was later rushed to the hospital by the event officials, The Hindu further added.
