MS Dhoni & Gautam Gambhir May Contest On BJP Tickets In 2019 Lok Sabha Elections: Report
Home > India newsWith the 2019 general elections inching closer, all parties in the country are on a mission to gather as much support and strength as possible. A latest report suggests that the BJP is likely to field celebrities like Gautam Gambhir and former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
According to a report in The Sunday Guardian , the BJP is likely to replace Meenakshi Lekhi with Gautam Gambhir in the New Delhi constituency, given her “poor performance” as the sitting Member of Parliament there. Gambhir belongs to Delhi and is a resident of Rajinder Nagar in the New Delhi constituency.
Sources in the BJP's senior ranks also confirmed to The Sunday Guardian that the party was in talks with former skipper MS Dhoni to join the party and contest from a seat in Jharkhand. Not only that, the BJP is also likely to name Dhoni and Gambhir as their star campaigners across the country.
“Both players have wide acceptability, respect and credibility across the country and are regarded as leaders by all sections of society. They are not only leaders from their respective states, but also leaders of the country. Dhoni is currently the captain of the Chennai Super Kings team playing at the IPL (Indian Premier League) and thus has reach and mass base even in the southern parts of India. Both these players joining the party will be an asset for us,” a senior leader said.
It will certainly be a huge boost for the ruling party to have Gambhir and Dhoni in their ranks with the 2019 elections in focus. Both the cricketers have a formidable fan base and are national heroes for their achievements on the cricket pitch.
