Covid-19: Various IPC Sections that may be invoked against an individual who violates State Orders!

As India is under a complete lockdown to contain the rapid spread of the Coronavirus, Chief Ministers of several states have expressed dissatisfaction over non-adherence to government orders by citizens.

Here in this article, we take a look at various Indian Penal Code sections that may be invoked against an individual who violates state orders.

IPC Section 188: "Disobedience to order duly promulgated by Govt." Attracts imprisonment up to six months, or fine, or both. *Cognizable, Bailable*

IPC Section 269: "Negligently doing any act known to be likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life." Attracts six-month imprisonment, or fine, or both. *Cognizable, Bailable*

IPC Section 270: "Malignantly doing any act known to be likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life." Attracts imprisonment for 2 years, or fine, or both. *Cognizable, Bailable*

IPL Section 271: "Knowingly disobeying any quarantine rule." Attracts imprisonment for 6 months, or fine, or both. *Non-cognizable, Bailable*
