First Minor Dies of Coronavirus After Testing Positive in US; Death Toll Crosses 700
Home > News Shots > World newsIn a sad and shocking case, a youth under the age of 18 become the first minor to die due to Coronavirus pandemic. As per Los Angeles County health officials, he was one of three new deaths reported by the department.
"Tragically, one of the people who died was a person under the age of 18, a devastating reminder that COVID-19 infects people of all ages," said Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer at a press conference.
Highlighting about the stats, in Los Angeles County, there have been 256 new confirmed cases in the city while eleven people have died in the county.
Public Health Director further stated that, "people between 18 and 40 years old make up 42 percent of positive cases. This is a devastating reminder that COVID-19 infects people of all ages."
Speaking about the loss in the country, Ferrer added that: "Each loss we experience in LA County is tragic, and we are sending our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones who've had to endure this tragedy."
"While Public Health is doing everything possible to mitigate the impact of this disease in our community, we can only flatten the curve if EVERYONE takes social distancing seriously and adheres to all isolation and quarantine orders issued by our Health Officer," he finally stated.
Meanwhile, the number of cases of COVID-19 in the US rises to over 53, 753 while the death toll has crossed 700 in America alone.
