Reportedly, the 41-year-old victim was a clothes merchant and he was against the girl’s relationship with her boyfriend Praveen. A few days ago, when he learned that the girl was still meeting Praveen in malls despite his warnings, he got furious and beat her with a belt. He also restricted her mobile usage.

On Sunday, around 10.30 am, the girl’s mother and younger brother left the house to attend a wedding in Puducherry. She took advantage of their absence and served her father with milk containing sedatives. Soon after he began losing consciousness, she and Praveen stabbed him several times with a knife and set his body on fire. The couple even allegedly attempted to destroy the evidence.

The incident came to light when people in that locality saw smoke spewing out of their house. Assuming it to be a fire accident, they alerted the fire department. While trying to control the blaze, fire personnel noticed the victim’s half-burnt body lying on the bathroom floor. Nobody seemed to be in the house at that time.

After a while, the girl turned up and said police that she had gone to a relative’s house to have breakfast as her mother was away. Upon further questioning, she changed the statement to say that she returned from a morning walk. While this was prompting suspicion, a forensic examination confirmed the couple’s hands into the incident. “A preliminary investigation found that the girl was upset about being beaten up by her father over her friendship with the accused,”  N Shashikumar was quoted as saying by NDTV.
