Kirrak Party, the Telugu remake of successful Kannada film Kirik Party releases today. The trailer which released recently created a huge expectation. Has the whole movie come out as good as the trailer? Like most remakes, it is definitely not good as the original. Now let us see its pros and cons.
Kirrak Party is a comedy-love drama about a group of friends attending an engineering college. Though there are a bunch of young and promising stars, the movie majorly revolves around the male lead Nikhil Siddharth. Kirrak Party talks about the lead’s four-year journey at a college filled with plenty of fun, love, drama, pain and sorrow.
Though the film pretty much has a similar plot to Malayalam film Premam, there is something fresh about the screenplay of Kirrak Party, thanks to Seven Odds Team, the original screenwriters. Having said that, the overall execution could have been way better than what was on display. Though there is a lot of scope to score, the makers seem to have made this a wasted opportunity.
The first half largely has a fun treatment with not so much of drama. Few force-fitted comedies could be a distraction but on the whole, if you like typical college entertainment, it would not be a disappointment. But whereas, after the surprise pre-interval twist, the second half drags quite a bit and towards the end, it gets a little too clumsy and half-baked.
It is probably the most challenging role that Nikhil Siddharth has played till date. His character resembles what Nivin Pauly did in Premam. So there is that pressure of comparison but if you look at his role without any juxtaposition, you will see that he has done a decent job. Both the lead female heroines, Simran Pareenja and Samyuktha Hegde, have given what their roles deserve. Maybe more support from the supporting artists could have uplifted the overall tempo of Kirrak Party.
Chandoo Mondeti's dialogues add some weight to the script, however, one cannot deny the fact they are a little cheesy at times. Songs and cinematography could have been better.
Verdict: Not a great PARTY despite a few fun college moments!!!
