Mersal has just released in Tamil Nadu after quite a few hurdles, and is doing really well. However, its Telugu counterpart Adirindhi has not yet had its release. And the reason is something we all are familiar with as an obstacle for Mersal itself - censor.
The CBFC, commonly known as the censor board, has formalities that every film should go through before they issue a censor certificate so that the film can be released. Turns out, Adirindhi is yet to complete the formalities, reports suggest. As soon as they are, Adirindhi's release date will be announced.
Vijay's Mersal has ridden on its star power to open very well in all the major overseas markets. Some of the markets where Mersal has outperformed include Malaysia, UK and Australia.
First day collections of Mersal in these countries are as follows:
UK - 81 lakhs from 37 locations
Australia - 68 lakhs from 25 locations
Malaysia - 90 lakhs
These are some great figures for a Tamil film in overseas markets. Let's hope Mersal continues to keep the momentum going.
