VISWASAM MOVIE REVIEW

Review By : Behindwoods Review Board
Release Date : Jan 10,2019
Movie Run Time : 2 hour 32 minutes Censor Rating : U

It is always a delight to witness Thala Ajith on the big screen and his film release is a celebration every single time. This time, the celebration is for Viswasam, which marks Ajith’s fourth time association with director Siva after working in three projects, Veeram, Vedalam and Vivegam. Here is our review on Ajith’s Viswasam, which also co-stars Nayanthara, Jagapathi Babu, Thambi Ramaiah, Yogi Babu, Robo Shankar, and others.

The final shot of Viswasam’s trailer suggests the one line of the film. Yes, Viswasam is all about a family man, Thooku Durai, who intends and promises to save his daughter and wife at all costs.from the negative forces. Did he win over the antagonist forms the rest of the story.

Ajith’s introduction scene sets up the route perfectly and the basement is rightly constructed.
The first half of the film is filled with the festive mood, which enlightens the overall ambience. Compared to the first half, the second half has a dip with few low points. The high moments that were seen in the trailer of the film become the high points in the film as well. The family emotions work neatly and it is not overdone.

Ajith shines totally as Thooku Durai and his ‘alapparai’ is enjoyable throughout. The story takes place in two different places, Koduvilarpatti and Mumbai, and Ajith shows a good amount of variation with his acting. His Madurai dialect adds to the nativity and the authenticity. Ajith is seen at his casual best in the light hearted scenes. Whenever the screenplay faces a dip, Ajith comes as a saviour. Not to forget, Thala Ajith’s single take dance in the last bit of ‘Adchi Thooku’. The audience will definitely enjoy that portion.

Nayanthara looks dazzling on screen and she has a meaty role to perform who travels throughout. Baby Anikha emotes beautifully and her chemistry with Ajith works big time. The game play between Ajith and Anikha is an interesting watch. The entire set of comedians does a good job with their limited screentime.

On the downside, Viswasam not only has a very thin storyline, but also the treatment falls in a template and as a result, you end up predicting the upcoming scenes. A certain section of comedies doesn't bring out the intended laughter. As like other commercial mass entertainers, Viswasam also has the problem of having a weakly written villain. Had the antagonist had a stronger characterisation, the face off between Ajith and Jagapathi Babu could have been exciting. The reasoning behind the antagonist’s anger isn't completely satisfying.

D Imman’s pulsating background score elevates the intensity of the scene to a different level and his name in the crew is a valuable addition. The song placements have also fortunately worked in the favour of the movie. Vetri’s visuals are equally supportive of the film and enhances the stardom of Ajith. Kannaana Kanney song picturisation brings out the beautiful emotions between a father and a daughter. A few notable shots visually communicate the relationship between Ajith and his fans.

Director Siva is very clear with his intentions who puts forth an entertaining rural action drama filled with family emotions and other elements. He understands the pulse of the fans and the family audience and delivers a entertaining product. It wouldn’t be wrong if we label Viswasam as the best film, out of the four films from Ajith - Siva combination.

In a nutshell, Viswasam is packaged with right commercial elements to satisfy the family audience and Thala fans.

Verdict: Ajith's Viswasam is bundled commercially well with emotions and mass scenes. Pongal Treat for fans, Go for it!

VISWASAM SONGS REVIEW

Review by : Behindwoods Review Board
Album Release Date : Dec 16,2018

Adchi Thooku
Vocals: D Imman
Lyrics: Viveka

The song seems to be designed to show off a few interesting elements of Thooku Durai's character. There's a fun angle as much as the sturdy man he is. The synths used are symbolic of the fun, while the bulky beats and the lyrics give us an idea that he's a man of the punch. D Imman has a unique bass voice that could be used in different dynamics and he does that in style with this song. The beats are strong and they don't let us rest our legs. The composition and usage of tones stay within his limits, making us want something we haven't heard a lot of. However, the energy of the song can guarantee a blast in the theatre!

Vetti Kattu
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan
Lyrics: Yugabharathi

A very powerful folk track for Thala Ajith's introduction is what Vetti Kattu. Imman's arrangements have always been praiseworthy. This track has its guitar section sorted, bringing in the strength for the massy song. The whistle has also been used effectively. Shankar Mahadevan has a robust voice and a hell a lot of talent, making it easy for him to ace anything thrown at him. Imman has infused his typical elements and has made up a pakka theater song. This one will have the fans on their feet!

Kannaana Kanney
Vocals: Sid Sriram
Lyrics: Thamarai

The first thing we would notice about this haunting melody is Thamarai's lyrics that are beautiful and fall right into Imman's notes. Lately, it seems as though Sid Sriram is thought of, as soon as a music director knows he's given his best shot for a track. The same goes with Kannana Kanney. This is a melody with grand instrumentation that backs Sid's rendition very well. Usually, we would find Imman's stamp seeping through every note of his melody. But this one is very different and the classical angle brings in a great deal of power to the song.

Vaaney Vaaney
Vocals: Hariharan, Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Viveka

Vaaney Vaaney is a household anthem that speaks about the relationship between the husband and the wife. D Imman has brought in two of India's finest singers Hariharan and Shreya Ghoshal to croon this track and without doubt, their work is flawless. The rhythm and string arrangement is an attraction. However, the composition falls into Imman's usual pattern and limitations. But the song shows promise to be an interesting addition to the story.

Danga Danga
Vocals: Senthil Ganesh, Rajalakshmi
Lyrics: Arun Bharathi

The trending couple Senthil Ganesh and Rajalakshmi have already sung hit songs and are having a dream run. Danga Danga falls right in their strong zone. This is a template Imman folk number with mighty beats. Yet again, a song that would trigger theater moments and bring the fans to their feet.

Rise Up Theme
Vocals: Shenbagaraj, Narayanan, Saisharan, Vignesh Narayanan, Sarath Santhosh, Jithinraj
Lyrics: Siva

When we have a Thala Ajith album releasing, the expectation for the Theme track is always high. This time, Imman and Siva have come up with a extended dynamic theme that has quite a few dimensions to it. It begins on a low, and has a travel of its own through the 3 and a half minutes. The arrangements are heavy and highly commendable. The chorus that has crooned this one deserves praise as the vocals are extremely powerful, giving us the chills.

The orchestration is interestingly arranged and Imman has used the many tones that add the rural flavor. The track is rather intimidating and adds to Ajith's compelling strength. Director Siva has penned the lyrics for the song and much like Vivegam, he has done a fairly impressive job of it.

Verdict: Imman delivers a perfect mix of mass and melodies for Thala Ajith's Viswasam
