Vinodhaya Sitham is a film written and directed by P. Samuthirakani and produced by Abirami Ramanathan and Nallammai Ramanathan under the banner Abirami Media Works. The film has Thambi Ramaiah and Samuthirakani in the lead roles while Deepak, Munishkanth, Sanchita Shetty, Jayaprakash and others play crucial supporting roles. The film is streaming on the OTT Platform Zee5.

Parasuram (played by Thambi Ramaiah) is a successful employee in a company and believes that the lives of the people around him are entirely dependent on him, making him a control freak. While returning from a business trip, he meets with an accident and dies. He then meets Samuthirakani who plays the role of Time. Time gives Parasuram 90 days to fulfil all his unsatisfied dreams. What happens next forms the story of the film.

We all know what to expect out of a Samuthirakani film. There will be social messages, sprinkled all over. Usually, the messages are on your face, here too we get the same kind of film. But the difference is that, like Saattai and Appa, Samuthirakani creates a fantasy universe that makes it feasible for him to convey the message.

This means, when Samuthirakani plays the role of a teacher or a father, they are characters in our real lives who keep lecturing us. So it doesn't feel out of place in the film. Similarly, since Samuthirakani plays the role of Time, a god-like character here, he keeps travelling with Thambi Ramaiah throughout, lecturing him, and indirectly us, the audience, how to be a good parent, and that things keep happening around us irrespective of our presence in those situations.

But the problem is that this message is spelt out to us right at the start, and then each situation is about proving that Samuthirakani is right and Thambi Ramaiah is wrong. This type of screenplay robs the film of any possible twists and turns, which in turn affects the engagement. Again, look at a film like Appa or Sattai - The story keeps moving forward there, and the messages also keep coming. But only in the climax does Samuthirakani sum up what he wanted to convey through the film. The reverse happens in Vinodhaya Sitham.

With a runtime of just above an hour and a half, and some solid performances make the film watching experience better than what it should have. This is a cakewalk role for Samuthirakani and Sriranjani, and Thambi Ramaiah shines well with their performances. The other actors like Munishkanth and Sanchita Shetty deliver what is exactly needed for the film.

Among the technical aspects, C Sathya's music works only in a few portions. Instead of complementing the scenes or the narrative, the music works more as a cue to let the audience know what to feel during the scenes. The visuals by NK Ekambaram on the other hand look good and give a good production value for this film.

Overall, although the message of the film is new and something that has not been said before, the screenplay could have been much better. However, if you are a fan of Samuthirakani's brand of films, this will work for you, for the message it carries. The short run-time also helps the film engage you well.

Verdict: Vinodhaya Sitham engages well to an extent, and can be watched for the unique message it carries.
