To know about what happened in Kollywood over the past 7 days, here we present you the Top 10 news of the week.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the General Secretary of AIADMK, J Jayalalithaa who had been battling with illness for over two months, breathed her last yesterday (5th December) at 11:30pm. She had been admitted to Apollo Hospitals, Chennai since September 2016 and had been undergoing treatment there.
The day before evening, she suffered a cardiac arrest, post which she was shifted to ICU from her special room where she was put on ECMO, a heart assist device that helps in cardiac and respiratory functions. An expert team of doctors was attending to her.
Her demise has left a huge irreplaceable void in the Tamil Nadu political arena. She had been such a huge support for the film industry and her contribution to Tamil films will always be etched in stone.
She started her career as an actress and was supposedly the highest paid actress for 15 long years!
We at behindwoods offer our respects and pray for her departed soul to rest in peace.
The legendary actor, politician, journalist and lawyer Cho Ramaswamy passed away today, 7th December in Chennai. He was admitted in Apollo Hospital, Chennai on November 29th for breathing related issues.
Cho had been ailing for some time and was hospitalized for respiratory problems on a couple of occasions in recent times. He was 82 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Cho Ramaswamy had a good personal rapport with our former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. In fact, he was Jayalalithaa's first hero in stage plays back then.
Behindwoods mourns the demise of this legend and prays to the Almighty to render strength to the family of the departed.
When it comes to communicating any information, there is a kind of frenzy among the media and people to do it first. This was seen in announcing about CM’s health a little while ago by a private TV channel. Thankfully, the news turned out fake and Apollo Hospitals issued a statement to refute it. We compile tweets of some of the celebs’ reaction on this.

“Devastating to hear about the demise of our honorary CM #jayalalithaa ... the Iron Lady of South Indian politics ...”
The sudden demise of our Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa has definitely shaken every one of us. Many actors expressed their feelings through social media. Gautami has now written a letter to our honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in her official blog, questioning about the mystery behind CM's death. Her post is as follows:
"The Honourable Prime Minister of India,
Shri Narendra Modiji
Dear Sir,
I write this letter to you today as an ordinary citizen of India. I am a homemaker, amother and a working woman. My concerns and priorities in my life are those that are shared by many of my fellow countrymen, primarily to build a safe and nurturing environment for my family that will allow them to live a safe and fulfilled life.
I am also one among the crores who are mourning the recent shocking demise of our late Chief Minister, Selvi Dr. J Jayalalithaaji. She was a towering personality in Indian politics and was a great inspiration for women from all walks of life. Her leadership of Tamil Nadu, over several terms in office, has brought us to the forefront in many spheres of development. Selvi Dr. Jayalalithaa ji’s undeniable strength and determination to persevere against all odds are a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire individuals of every gender to persist in pursuit of their dreams in life.
Her demise is all the more tragic and unsettling because of the circumstances over the past few months and the sheer volume of unanswered questions about our late Chief Minister’shospitalisation, treatment, reported recovery and very sudden passing. There has been a near total blanketing of information regarding these matters. Nobody had been allowed access to her and many dignitaries who visited her with deep concern were denied an opportunity to convey their wishes in person. Why this secrecy and isolation of a beloved public leader and the head of the Tamil Nadu government? What/whose authority restricted access to the late Chief Minister? Who were the concerned persons who were making the decisions about Selvi Dr. J Jayalalithaa ji’streatment and care when her health was apparently in such a delicate state? And who is responsible for these answers to the people? These and many other burning questions are being asked by the people of Tamil Nadu and I echo their voice in bringing them to your ears, sir.
No doubt some might say that it is a moot point because it has happened as it has, but that, sir, is precisely my fear. I ask these questions now because it is a primary concern and right of every citizen of India to be aware of and informed about their democratically elected leaders. To be aware of their state of health and ability to perform their duties for the larger good of the people. To be concerned for the wellness and comfort of a beloved leader of the masses. And the fact that a tragedy of such tremendous scale should not go unquestioned and definitely, not unanswered, under any circumstances. If thisbe the case with a public figure of this magnitude, then what chance does the common citizen of India have when he fights for his personal rights? The confidence of every Indian in the democratic process that makes our nation so great is precious and must be protected against all odds.
I am writing to you now, sir, with the complete confidence that you share my anxiety and determination to uphold the rights of every Indian to be aware and informed of any factor that impacts our day to day life. You have proven yourself in many ways to be a leader who is unafraid to stand up for the rights of the common man and I am confident that you will heed the call of your fellow countrymen.
With my deepest respects and trust
Jai Hind!
Gautami Tadimalla

12th December is an important day for Superstar Rajinikanth’s fans as it is the birthday of the Kabali hero. Usually, there will be a lot of fanfare on this day as a mark of celebration of the star’s birthday.
However, his official PRO informs that Rajinikanth has requested his fans not to celebrate his birthday and also to avoid keeping banners and posters. The recent passing away of TN CM Jayalalithaa and Cho Ramaswamy has resulted in the mood being very somber in the state.
It has to be noted that Kamal Haasan also refrained fans from celebrating his birthday recently.
Vijay’s Bairavaa directed by Bharathan has Keerthy Suresh as the heroine and is gearing up for a Pongal release. The film’s audio launch is round the corner.
When it comes to Vijay’s films, everything around it is very exciting for the audience and our sources reveal that the close-up shot of Vijay smiling in the trailer where he is seen wearing earphones is likely to be the intro scene of Bairavaa.
The film’s trailer has got a tremendous response from fans and everyone is eagerly waiting to feast on Vijay’s Bairavaa for the Pongal festival!
Selvaraghavan’s upcoming romantic film on the lines of 7G Rainbow Colony with Santhanam kick started yesterday (4th December) with a ‘pooja’.
We are now told that this film has apparently been titled as ‘Mannavan Vanthanadi’. Remember the popular song which starts with the same phrase in Sivaji’s Thiruvarutchelvar? We feel it is an apt title for a romantic film. What say? However, an official confirmation regarding the title is still awaited from the makers.
The technical team comprises of Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, GK Prasanna for editing, Loganathan for cinematography and Shiva for the art department.
Everyone has been waiting to listen to the songs of Bairavaa, which has music by Santhosh Narayanan.
It is now said that the songs of Bairavaa might be released on 17th of December. Reports also suggest that there will be no big audio launch event and the songs are most likely to be released directly through online platforms.
It is not known, why the makers have planned for a soft audio launch, but this might be a disappointment for Vijay fans, who would have hoped to see their favorite star directly at the event. It should be noted that the audio launch of Vijay's two previous films, Puli and Theri, happened in a grand scale.
Let us wait for an official announcement regarding the audio launch plans of this much-awaited film.
