Ilayathalapathy Vijay is known for his benevolence and the best thing about the Kushi hero is that he makes no attempts to reveal his generosity. It is known that Vijay had handed over gold chains to Bairavaa team recently.

 

Now we also hear from sources close to the actor that his munificence does not limit to the people he works with but also extends to different unions in the industry. The source reveals, “It is always his habit to make some donations to different unions in the film industry. Vijay sir had donated an amount to few producers a few years ago and later a substantial amount to the Director’s Union. He had also made a generous donation of sorts to Southern India Cinematographer’s Association (SICA). Now he has given to Editor’s Union.”

Popular singer Chinmayi Sripada has filed an online petition in Twitter, demanding the social networking forum to protect the safety of women.

Chinmayi, in her petition, has said,

"You need to be raped …"
"I'll throw acidon your face"
"I'll make sure you never sing again"

These were just a few tweets that I got for expressing my opinion on twitter. I am a playback singer in the film industry and I accept that I will be in the public eye.

But these threats of violence left me shaken and scared for my life. When I tried to report these threats Twitter simply ignored my fears. They told me that they would not take any action unless there was a police case.

Most women give up at this stage and quit Twitter. I decided to fight and filed a police complaint. Ultimately it was my fans who helped us identify my abusers. 3 people were arrested and spent 10 days in jail.

The entire incident left me furious! I am a celebrity and I have time, support and resources to fight. But what about the millions of ordinary women who use Twitter and face rape threats every day? It is the responsibility of Twitter to ensure that their platform is not used for promoting violence against women.

That’s why I started this petition asking Twitter to send a strong message against online abuse by doing a large-scale shutdown of accounts which tweet rape threats against women. Twitter has recently come out with new safety policies for its users. It talks about ‘mute’ and ‘block’ functions.

But twitter has never done a large scale shutdown of accounts that promote violence against women. In 2015, 360,000 twitter accounts were shut down for links to terrorism. Why can’t the same be done for accounts that tweet rape threats?

Twitter has to accept its responsibility. In its latest safety update twitter has said, “We’re listening and want your feedback so we can learn faster, build smarter, and make meaningful progress.”

I want Twitter to listen to its women users. I do not want to censor free speech and disagreements which are subjective and personal. But threats of rape can be objectively tracked and should not be protected as a “right to speech”.

Some men think rape threats are no big deal. That it’s ok to use rape or murder as casual threats. Rape is one of the worst forms of violence. Threats of rape and other gender-based violence are weapons that are used to subjugate and silence women.

If Twitter does a large scale shut down of these accounts that threaten to rape women, it will send a very strong message that the platform cannot be used for such vicious attacks. Women across the world are beginning to find Twitter hostile and traumatic. It’s time Twitter cleaned up its act and showed women that it is truly listening to our concerns."

Apart from this petition, she had made her point clear by posting another statement in Twitter, which read, "With regard to my petition on change.org and that Twitter is a bubble and it ain't the real world - perhaps. But if social media isn't 'real', please send the money to advertise in print media - when you want to find blood donors or stem cell donors. Or to raise funds for an underprivileged child's education or ailment. Or to bring attention about a civic issue.

If you agree the requests above can be posted on social media where responses are 'real', threats to personal safety are real too. There cannot be selective blindness.

You say that you’d buy half a ground of land for all the members of the Producers Council if you win the elections. Have you ever thought of doing the same in these one and half years, for the members of Nadigar Sangam? Do you know what the current state of the producer, who introduced you is in? He is seen nowhere now. You had promised to settle him an amount of Rs.45 lakhs. What happened to that? Even after earning crores and crores of salary, do you still find it difficult to give him the money? If this is the case, how will you take care of the entire union? You request votes from small time producers. Ok, but have you ever worked in at least one film with one such a small time producer? Why are you going to them now alone? There is not even one soul to cheer for you in your movie’s first show. However, you get the salary in crores. Had you been quite reasonable in fixing your salary, many producers would’ve been in a good position now.

Celebrity social media account hacking has become a daily affair in the current times. Not very long ago, Trisha’s social forum was apparently hacked and last week, Suchitra’s twitter account hack controversy took the K-Town by a storm.

 

Now the latest actress to fall victim to these hacking issue is Madonna Sebastian whose Facebook account has allegedly been hacked. The actress took to her FB page to inform the same.

Actress Bhavana allegedly got engaged to a Kannada producer who goes by the name Naveen. It must be noted that Naveen was the producer of Bhavana’s film Romeo.

 

In a very private function held today, 9th March in Kochi, actress Bhavana apparently got engaged to Naveen. The event was witnessed by close friends, family members, and actress Manju Warrier.

 

Bhavana currently has two Malayalam films 'Honey Bee 2' costarring with Asif Ali and 'Adam' opposite Prithviraj. She also has a Kannada film titled Tagaru.

As reported by us, a biopic on actress Savitri is currently being made. The film has been titled as 'Nadigaiyar Thilagam' in the Tamil version, while it will be called as Mahanati in Telugu. Nag Ashwin wields the directorial hat for this film.
