Karikaalan (played by Superstar Rajinikanth) and Selvi are a couple whose love is tested by an old flame, but the theme is portrayed in a lighter manner, filled with snarky comebacks from Selvi, played with great aplomb by Easwari Rao, who brings a humourous yet matriachal touch to the character. After Kabali, Pa Ranjith masterfully portrays an  elderly romance in Kaala.
