Koogle Kuttappa is a sci-fi comedy drama written by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval and directed by Sabari - Saravanan. The film is produced by KS Ravikumar under the banner RK Celluloid, and stars KS Ravikumar himself in the lead role alongside Tharshan and Losliya. The film has Yogi Babu, Prankster Rahul, Poovaiyar, Marimuthu, Suresh Chandra Menon and others playing supporting roles. It is the official Tamil remake of the Malayalam film Android Kunjappan V.5.25

KS Ravikumar plays the role of Subramani Gounder, who has lost his wife, and his son Adhithya (Tharshan) is the only one left to take care of him. Adhithya on the other hand, wants to move out of Coimbatore and dreams to work in a foreign country. Subramani is afraid that he'll be left alone to die, and does not permit Adhithya to pursue his dreams.

One day, fed up with his adamant dad, he decides to accept a job offer in Germany and leaves his dad under the care of home nurses but none of them are able to handle him. When Adhithya returns from Germany for a short visit, he brings along a humanoid robot from his company, and leaves it with Subramani to take care of him. Soon both develop a strong bond, and the film traces their relationship.

While the makers have not made any changes to the plot, there are a lot of changes made with respect to the screenplay and the milieu. In the original Malayalam movie, the film would have given us a slice of the father's life but in the Tamil version all we get is a loud, on-the-face rural drama that throws a lot of social messages at us whenever it gets a chance.

The film's strongest pillar is KS Ravikumar who portrays the annoying previous generation father role perfectly. The way he treats Tharshan in the opening scenes of the film annoys us, and when he starts bonding well with Kuttappan, the humanoid, we start empathizing with him well. Ravikumar handles both these zones comfortably, which proves that he's not only a strong director but also a beautiful actor. Tharshan has performed well but looks nervous in a few scenes and losliya has done a commendable job as Tharshan's pair.

Prankster Rahul, Marimuthu and Suresh Chandra Menon roles, who all look one note could have been written more interesting. For instance, Suresh Chandra Menon is our typical corporate villain, and Prankster Rahul's character is someone who keeps attacking everyone who mentions his father's name, it is confusing if we've to take him seriously or not. The romantic track between Tharshan and Losliya is also not established properly.

However, the film does have its fair share of moments. The pre-climax and climax scenes, and the scenes between KS Ravikumar and the humanoid have a lot of heart in them. That's where the film's essence completely lies, and that should have been explored more. These scenes are further amplified by Ghibran's background score, and his songs also sound pleasant to the ear. The cinematography is functional and gives the film what it needs.

Overall, the film could have been better in terms of engagement, but it's not as bad as it sounds. Technically, the film is decent, with Ghibran's music standing out. If you've seen the original Malayalam film, the cute moments between the humanoid and KS Ravikumar makes this a watchable flick.

Verdict: KS Ravikumar's performance and his chemistry with the robot makes Koogle Kuttappa a watchable emotional film.
