Dhilluku Dhuddu 2 (aka) Dhilluku Dhuddu II review
1 of 2
Production: Hand Made Films
Cast: Motta Rajendran, Santhanam, Shritha Sivadas
Direction: Rambhala
Music: Shabir
Cinematography: Deepak Kumar Padhy

Jump scares, furniture flying all over the place, aided with a spooky background score, are some of the cliches found in a horror film. Dhilluku Dhuddu 2 is a film that will still surprise you on entertainment, because it falls into the above-mentioned cliches.

Following the cliches is one thing, and following them knowing that it's a cliche, is another. This film belongs to the latter category, and director Rambhala takes us on a laughter ride. While this comedy film with a few horror elements isn't a sequel to Dhilluku Dhuddu, an in-form Santhanam and Motta Rajendran nail it with the performance and counters. The one-liners work almost every single time, despite some jokes not being in good taste.

The drawback with the first part of this franchise was, the 'hero' Santhanam took the driver's seat, while the comedian in him took the backseat. That is rectified here, and we see a huge difference in the way the movie engages us. Sritha Sivadas, a debut in Tamil from Mollywood doesn't have much scope in this comical horror, which is dominated by Santhanam and Mottai Rajendran right from the word go till the end.

Yes, this is a commercial potboiler, but there are very few songs, very few separate fight sequences, and very few 'mass', 'over-the-top' scenes that bring the hero inside Santhanam to the forefront. Songs by Shabir doesn't impress much, but the background score is decent enough to support the scary scenes. The length of the movie is a big plus as it runs less than 120 minutes, that makes the film feel more engaging. Few scenes of this U/A censored horror flick might be scary/disturbing to children below 12 years.

One place where the audience could have lost connect, is when the film moves from Chennai to Chottanikara, Kerala. The transition happens so quickly. A few scenes become too predictable because of the number of films we have seen in this genre. This isn't a technical masterpiece or a brilliantly written comedy film, but at the end of the day, it entertains you well with dialogues and some good one-liners.

Verdict: Santhanam's one-liners, Motta Rajendar, and the comical screenplay make Dhilluku Dhuddu 2, a good watch.
