RAGHAVA LAWRENCE’S STATEMENT ON JALLIKATTU ISSUE!

Actor Raghava Lawrence has given a detailed statement in support to the ongoing Jallikattu issue. This is what the Kanchana actor had to say:

மேற்கத்திய கலாச்சார விளையாட்டுக்கள் நம் மக்களின் பொழுது போக்குக்கு மட்டுமே சிறந்தது. அனால் நம் ஜல்லிக்கட்டு என்பது ஆண்மைக்கும், வீரத்துக்கும் உரியதானது.

சுமார் 5000 ம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பே தமிழனின் வீர விளையாட்டாக கொண்டாடப்பட்ட ஜல்லிக்கட்டுக்கு தடையா? ஆச்சர்யம் தான். ஆண்டு முழுவதும் தங்களது செல்ல குழந்தைகளாக கருதப்படும் காளைகளை ஜல்லிக்கட்டிற்காக மூன்றே நாள் தான் விளையாட வைக்கிறார்கள்.

ஆனால் நாள் முழுவதும் எத்தனை லட்சம் உயிர்கள் நம் உணவுக்காகவும், உடைகளுக்காகவும், தோலுக்காகவும் கொல்லப்படுகிறது.

ஜல்லிக்கட்டிற்காக மூன்றே நாட்கள் பயன்படுத்தப் படும் காளைகள் வதை செய்யப் படுகிறது என்றால்.. உணவுக்காகவும், தோலுக்காகவும், உடைக்காகவும் கொல்லப்படும் விலங்குகள் என்ன தாங்களாகவே தங்கள் தலையை நீட்டி கொல்லப் படுவதை வரவேற்கின்றனவா?

வீர விளையாட்டுக்கு மிருக வதை என்று பெயராம். வியாபாரத்திற்கு அன்னிய செலாவனி என்று பெயராம். கடந்த சில நாட்களாக சகோதரர், சகோதரிகள் ரோட்டில் நின்று போராடுகிறார்கள் எதற்காக?

நமக்கு பிடித்த விளையாட்டை விளையாட விடுங்கள் என்று.. அதற்காக அடித்து உதைத்து துன்புறுத்துவதா? மாடுகளை துன்புறுத்துகிறோம் என்று தடை செய்து விட்டு மனிதர்களை அடித்து துரத்தி துன்புறுத்துவது என்ன நியாயம்?

தமிழன் போராடுவது எதற்காக ? தாங்கள் வீரன் என  சொல்லப் படுவதற்காக ....ஜல்லிக்கட்டு வேண்டி போராடுபவர்களை முடக்கி கோழைகளாக்க வேண்டாம்.

தயவு செய்து மாநில அரசும், மதிய அரசும் தமிழர்களின் உணர்வுகளுக்கு மதிப்பு கொடுத்து ஜல்லிக்கட்டை அனுமதிக்க வேண்டும்.

A rough English translation 

Western sports are fit enough for time pass, whereas our traditional games are manly and valorous.  Why ban on Jallikattu, a Tamil sport, that was considered fearless and gallant 5000 years ago? Surprising! Bulls that are affectionately treated as one’s own children throughout the year are being used for jallikattu just for three days only. But on a daily basis, how many animal lives are being taken away for our food and dress?

If in jallikattu bulls are being harmed for three days, what about the other days when animals are being killed? Are they voluntarily offering their heads to be killed?

It is weird that valiant sports are being termed as cruelty to animals, but it is called foreign exchange when done for business. For the past few days, our brothers and sisters are protesting against the ban on jallikattu. I request the state and the central government to heed to their request and allow jallikattu to happen.
