The cinema strike has been called off by the Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation after the intervention by Dileep, Antony Perumbavur and other prominent people in the Malayalam film industry.
Dileep said that they have decided to form a new association that combines the interest of producers, distributors and theater owners. Director Siddique said that the leadership of Exhibitors Federation has a hidden agenda that will not help Malayalam cinema's progress. He said that last year when the film King Liar starring Dileep was released, the exhibitors federation had called for a strike on the 6th day for no reason.
He pointed out that the same federation who did not agree with the government's proposition has now agreed to it, which makes no sense as nothing has changed. Dileep said that going on strike don't affect theater owners who built their theaters twenty or thirty years ago, to them any income is profit. But the owners who recently built their theaters by taking loans have to pay EMI, and they are suffering because of this needless strike.
The president of exhibitors federation Liberty Basheer said that they have called off the strike and will sort out various issues by meeting the government officials on January 25th. The pending Malayalam Christmas releases will release next Friday (January 19th). With this strike being called off, now it would be an added advantage for Bairavaa to release in more number of screens.
