Our beloved ‘Isai Puyal’ A.R.Rahman has crossed his half century mark today (6th January) as he turns 50. The ace composer has done India proud with his Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe and many more. He has also won as many as 4 National Awards and countless other recognized Awards.
Like all years in his career, AR Rahman had a successful 2016 as well with albums like AYM, 24, Pele and Mohenjo-Daro. He has big projects lined up in 2017 like Shankar’s Enthiran 2, Sachin: A Billion Dreams, 99 Songs, Kaatru Veliyidai, Sarvam Thaala Mayam, Viceroy's House and Sangamithra. Apart from Sangamithra, all other albums are likely to release this year. He is also in talks to do Vijay 61 and a film with Gautham Menon. Wow, what a line-up that is?
What is so special about AR Rahman is his versatility. On one side, he could make an urban cool album like OK Kanmani. On the other hand, he works on period albums like Kochadaiiyaan and Mohenjo-Daro also. He is one of the very few music directors to constantly give successful albums in both Hindi and Tamil. It is not an easy deal. Though we are united by a nation, the taste and culture changes from state to state but he is one of the very few to crack the pulse of the whole nation. Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati, Telugu or Kannada, he has created some beautiful songs in all these languages.
It is far-fetched to think if Pele would win him another Oscar but the fact is that he is still in the contention and he might give India another Academy Award.
Behindwoods wishes India’s pride a very happy birthday and a long and healthy life ahead.
