WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY: TOP TAMIL HEROES WHO CREATED AN IMPACT PLAYING PHOTOGRAPHERS ON SCREEN!

World Photography Day is observed on August 19 every year, across the world. The day was chosen to mark the purchase of the patent to the daguerreotype camera by the French government, who made it free for use to the entire world. 

On this day, while many have taken to social media to thank photographers for playing a vital role in preserving important moments that eventually led to shaping history, we look at a few Tamil actors who have played photographers on screen.

'96' - Vijay Sethupathi (2018)

Directed by C Premkumar, the story revolves around Vijay Sethupathi's meet with his childhood sweetheart - Janaki aka Trisha. Here Vijay Sethupathi plays a photographer, who's into wildlife and travels the world. He is also seen teaching students about the art.

'Ko' - Jeeva (2011)

The movie 'Ko' which means 'King', stars Jeeva, Karthika Nair, Pia Bajpai and Ajmal in prominent roles. Jeeva plays the role of a photojournalist who working for works for a Tamil daily, uncovers various crimes and brings out the truth in them. The political action film was directed by late Director KV Anand.

'Mayakkam Enna' - Dhanush (2011)

Written and Directed by ace-Director and Dhanush's brother Selvaraghavan, the movie follows the life of Karthik, a wildlife photographer and his struggles to gain fame in the industry. Starring Richa as the female lead, the movie received positive response from fans and critics.

'Nanban' - Srikanth (2012)

This movie is the Tamil remake of the superhit Bollywood movie '3 idiots'. Starring Vijay, Jeeva and Srikanth in lead roles, the movie is about how the youngsters carve a road for themselves after college. Srikanth is an aspiring wildlife photographer who struggles to open up to his parents who dream about him becoming an engineer.

'Mundasupatti' - Vishnu Vishal (2014) 

Starring Vishnu Vishal and Nandita Swetha in lead roles, the movie is a period comedy film about a village that is totally against people taking photos. People in the village believe that bad luck will befall them if they are photographed. The story illustrates what happens when two photographers visit the village.

'Kaadhal Mannan' - Ajith (1998)

Ajith's romantic drama film 'Kaadhal Mannan' which translates to 'King of love' was a huge commercial success in the box office. The movie's story revolved around Ajith playing the role of a mechanic, but briefly donning the photographer's hat to attend an engagement ceremony where he meets Thilothama aka Maanu and falls in love with her. 

'Tik Tik Tik' - Kamal Haasan (1981) 

Directed by Bharathiraja, this crime-thriller film starred Kamal Haasan as the male lead who plays the character of Dhileep, a photographer who works for a newspaper. The movie became a huge hit with the film was remade in Hindi as Karishmaa (1984) where Haasan reprised his role.
