Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Pongal release Gethu which opened to mixed response from critics, is performing fairly well at the box office. In fact, all the Pongal releases have been doing considerably good, but a clear picture can only be obtained after Monday.
One of the important factors with regard to a film’s trade success is the 30% tax exemption provided by the state government for ‘U’ certified movies with Tamil titles. Gethu was recently rejected for tax exemption. The members of the tax exemption committee have apparently stated that, since Gethu is not a Tamil title, it is rejected for tax exemption.
But Udhayanidhi took to his Twitter page to say that Gethu is a Tamil word and as a proof he has also shared a screenshot from a Tamil dictionary which says Gethu means ‘Thandhiram’ and the tax exemption rejected documents.
Gethu is not the first time that Udhayanidhi is having a problem with the tax-exemption, but his films such as Neerparavai, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, Vanakkam Chennai and other have also been rejected for tax exemption.
