CONNECT BETWEEN RAJINI'S KABALI AND THE STAGE PLAY

The news about Superstar Rajinikanth’s decision to act in a stage play as part of Nadigar Sangam’s fund raiser event was an exciting one to all his fans and movie buffs. When we further learnt that the chosen tale would be that of Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan, the excitement level ramped up. Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan has garnered appreciation for its plot, detailing, narration style and what not.

A Chennai based theatre group, Magic Lantern brought this play live for two consecutive summers of 2014 and 2015 at the Music Academy, Chennai. Many celebrities lauded the effort and precision of the cast and crew, which includes Rajini himself. For people who have watched them perform, they would feel that the character of Periya Pazhuvettarayar will suit the style icon Rajini the best.

When we spoke to Elavarasan Raja who played the title character of Ponniyin Selvan in the 2015 edition of the play he agreed with our choice too. “Now that in Kabali, Rajini will be spotted playing a role at the level of his real age, his portrayal of Periya Pazhuvettarayar will be an iconic one”, claimed this young and aspiring actor who is a big follower of Superstar too.
