"WHAT HAPPENED TO RAJAKANNU WAS VERY HORRIBLE...": 'JAI BHIM' ACTOR MANIKANDAN OPENS UP ABOUT HIS ROLE!! EXCLUSIVE

'Jai Bhim' is based on a true incident that happened in 1995. It throws light on how popular advocate and judge Justice Chandru who went beyond the call of duty to ensure that justice is served to Irular Tribe Community, specifically to Sengani, who's husband gets wrongfully convicted in a theft case and suffers custodial torture by the police. Apart from Suriya, the film features Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Rajisha Vijayan, Manikandan, and Lijomol Jose in pivotal roles.

Within a few hours of its release, many celebrities and fans took to their respective social media handles to praise this thought-provoking and hard-hitting film. Speaking to Behindwoods in an exclusive interview, Manikandan, who plays the role of Rajakannu, spoke about his experience understanding the living conditions of the people and how he portrayed his role. He said that he was asked by them if he felt embarassed by playing their role.

Manikandan said that he denied and said, "I told them that it is my absolute honour to play this role and she immediately started crying. She asked me if people from Tamil Nadu would watch the movie understand their plight. I said the whole world would watch it. She cried even more and told me that this is enough for them."

Talking about the experience he had in shooting the custodial violence scenes by police, he said, "We can endure the pain that happens during a shoot, but someone has lived here has endured custodial torture. I wanted to depict the pain in the right manner. We don't have a problem. When we say 'cut', they'll stop the scene. Same goes with 'pack-up'. It is not the same for him. What happened to Rajakannu in real life was too horrible. I wanted to at least portray 10 per cent of what he endured."

'Jai Bhim' is produced by Suriya and Jyotika under their banner of 2D Entertainment and has been co-produced by Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian. 'Jai Bhim' has music scored by Sean Rolden. The team behind this film also includes DOP SR Kadhir, Editor Philominraj, and Art Director Kadhir.
