Director Selvaraghavan redefined Tamil cinema with his 2006 gangster-drama Pudhupettai. Starring Dhanush, Sneha, Sonia Aggarwal in pivotal roles, Pudhupettai achieved cult status over the coming years, where reruns of the film are shown to packed audiences.
Recently, at a college function, Selvaraghavan confessed he will be teaming up with Dhanush for Pudhupettai 2. Previously, Dhanush and Selvaraghavan teamed up for the 2012 drama Mayakkam Enna, which was produced by Gemini Film Circuit. For a quite while, Selvaraghavan was posting various updates about his next script, but this statement is a huge leap.
Pudhupettai traces the journey of ‘Kokki’ Kumar from his rise and fall in the ladder of crime. The film is iconic for its unapologetic display of crime and Yuvan Shankar Raja’s soundtrack, which consisted of pulsating tracks such as ‘Variya’ and ‘Neruppu Vaayinil’ to the melodious ‘Oru Naalil’.
Selvaraghavan was last seen directing the 2019 political thriller NGK, which had Suriya, Rakul Preet Singh and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. The film was bankrolled by SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu of Dream Warrior Pictures.
