Vetri Maaran’s Visaaranai was picked as India’s official entry to the most prestigious Oscar Awards for Best Foreign Language Film category.
It is a two phase nomination process. The 1st phase of screening took between mid-October and December 12. The screening involved several hundred Academy members. The executive members have now picked their top six choices with 3 additional selections. Unfortunately, India’s Visaaranai which a good chance to grab an Oscar misses the Oscars race.
The shortlisted films, selected from 85 submissions, are:
1.Australia, “Tanna” - directors Bentley Dean, Martin Butler
2.Canada, “It’s Only the End of the World” - director Xavier Dolan
3.Denmark, “Land of Mine” - director Martin Zandvliet
4.Germany, “Toni Erdmann” - director Maren Ade
5.Iran, “The Salesman” - director Asghar Farhadi
6.Norway, “The King’s Choice” - director Erik Poppe
7.Russia, “Paradise” - director Andrei Konchalovsky
8.Sweden, “A Man Called Ove” - director Hannes Holm
9.Switzerland, “My Life as a Zucchini” - director Claude Barras.
There will definitely be a next time Vetri! Keep rocking!
