It was a scene of melancholy at the house of actor Vijayakumar yesterday as his wife and veteran actress Manjula Vijayakumar’s untimely demise has sent shock waves to the entire industry.

The actress, who has shared screen space with Sivaji Ganesan, MGR and many other top actors was admitted at Sri Ramachandra Medical Center recently, following a serious health issue after she fell from her bed. Despite meticulous efforts by the doctors, the actress couldn’t be brought back to normalcy. The 59 year old breathed her last on 23^rd July.

The entire industry gathered at Vijayakumar’s house to pay their homage to the deceased. From the biggest celebrities of Tamil cinema like Rajinikanth, Vijaykanth, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Goundamani, Manorama, Senthil, Suriya, Jyothika to the current day stars like Jayam Ravi, Prasanna and Srikanth, everyone was there at Vijayakumar’s house, to shed a drop of tear.

Every artiste, who came to pay his/her respects to the actress, carried moist eyes and a heavy heart. The great lady had played part in each of their lives. The common opinion was that she treated her industry colleagues as her own family.

Looking forlorn, Vijaykumar and his daughters Vanitha, Sridevi and Preetha broke down every time someone came to convey their condolences. The actress had supposedly been Vijayakumar’s greatest companion, support and a best friend all throughout her life.   

The final rites were performed promptly, and the cremation of the actress is expected to happen today afternoon at the Valasaravakkam crematorium.
