It was a day of ecstatic emotions for many Indians. There was an outpour of emotions yesterday (August 1) as PV Sindhu won her bronze medal for badmintion at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 by defeating China's He Bing Jiao in straight games to win her second consecutive Olympic medal. The ace shuttler became the first Indian woman to win two olympic medals.
Next was the Indian Men's Hockey team who stormed into the semi finals by defeating Great Britain 3-1 in the quarter finals. India thus reached the last four stage for the first time in 49 years since 1972. Today (August 3), the Women's Hockey Team made India even more proud by advancing to the semi finals by beating Australia 1-0. India made history by entering into the semis for the first time in the history of Olympics. Both men and women hockey teams in the semifinals of the same Olympics for the first time.
As intense and teary-eyed emotions were high up in the air, many sportspersons, celebrities and politicians took to social media to congratulate the team for their incredible win. India will next take on Argentina in the semifinals on Wednesday (August 4).
Take a look at some of the Tweets:
Not only has PV Sindhu won a well deserved medal, but also we saw historic efforts by the men’s and women’s hockey teams at the Olympics. I’m optimistic that 130 crore Indians will continue to work hard to ensure India reaches new heights as it celebrates its Amrut Mahotsav.
