Popular Comedian Yogi Babu is one of the most sought-after actors in the Kollywood industry. His recent social satire film 'Mandela', written and directed by Madonne Ashwin was released earlier this year on popular OTT platform Netflix. The movie garnered appreciation from several celebrities and fans were bowled over by his brilliant performance.
The latest news is that 'Mandela' is the sole Tamil film that has been selected among 14 films shortlisted for India's entry to the Academy Awards. Among the Malayalam films, Martin Prakkat's 'Nayattu' is the official selection. The political thriller stars Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan and Kunchacko Boban playing lead roles. Both the south films have been shortlisted for India's entry to Oscars 2022.
Yogi Babu shared the happy news on Twitter along with pictures from the film. Fans have been pouring wishes and congratulations for Yogi Babu and rest of the cast and crew of the film. 'Mandela' stars Yogi Babu in the lead role, who plays the role of a rural barber and how he gets wooed by political parties in his village as a deciding vote.
Apart from 'Nayattu' and 'Mandela', two Bollywood films - Vidya Balan-starrer 'Sherni', and Vicky Kaushal-starrer 'Sardhar Uddham' have also made it to the list. A list of 14 films was compiled by a 15-member jury. Popular filmmaker Shaji N Karun is the Chairman of the jury who will select India's final entry to the Academy Awards for the category Best International Film category. The shortlisted film will be nominated for an Oscar on March 24, 2022.
Meanwhile Yogi Babu has a slew of upcoming films including Vijay's 'Beast', Ajith's 'Valimai, Director Hari's 'Yaanai', 'Thamezharasan', an untitled movie with Legend Saravanan, 'Kasethan Kadavulada 2' and many others. He is also reportedly on board for Atlee's biggie with Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara.
