'Jai Bhim' is based on a true incident that happened in 1995. It throws light on how popular advocate and judge Justice Chandru who went beyond the call of duty to ensure that justice is served to Irular Tribe Community, specifically to Sengani, who's husband gets wrongfully convicted in a theft case and suffers custodial torture by the police. Apart from Suriya, the film features Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Rajisha Vijayan, Manikandan, and Lijomol Jose in pivotal roles.

Within a few hours of its release, many celebrities and fans took to their respective social media handles to praise this thought-provoking and hard-hitting film. The movie has Lijomol Jose and Manikandan playing the Irular Tribe couple Sengani and Rajakannu.

Speaking to Behindwoods in an exclusive interview, Bala Haasan who plays the role of a police officer  who thrashes innocent Irular tribes in the movie, said the lock-up scene was filmed in a span of five to six days. "I was asked to go with the mindset to beat up the people. When we start filming the scene, they start crying. Until the scene ended, they used to cry. Their cries stayed with me for a week. The pain never left. It was like wailing during a funeral. It was very difficult to shoot it. It used to echo in my ears every night. Just when I thought I forgot, it was again reminded during the dubbing scene."

When asked if he felt like any scene needed more homeword, he said, "The thrashing scene felt so. We used to beat them fully and the actors used to come to drink tea with us during the break. I was given the role to beat Mosakutty. He used to smile at me during break hours and it was very painful at that time."

Talking about the response he received for his role in the movie, he said that many were angry at him for his role as a violent police officer. "But in the end, everyone appreciated me," he added.
