Filmmaker Pa Ranjith on Wednesday shared a poster of a film titled Anbuselvan. The poster featured filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon as the lead. Sharing the poster of the film, Ranjith wrote on Twitter, “Here’s the first look of #AnbuSelvan. So much intensity and impact indeed. Can’t wait to watch the action packed spell of Gautam Vasudev Menon. Best wishes to all”.
After the post went viral, it caught Gautham Menon’s attention who outrightly denied being part of the movie. Quote tweeting his tweet, the ace-director-cum-actor said, "This is shocking & news to me.I have no idea what this film is that I’m supposed to be acting in. I don’t know or haven’t met the director whose name is on this poster. Producer has got big names to tweet this. It’s shocking & scary that something like this can be done so easily." Shortly after he tweeted this, Director Pa Ranjith took down the tweet.

The poster is still doing rounds on social media and it features Gautham Menon striking various poses with a gun in his hand. The poster has the tagline ‘The Cop Devil’ apart from the title and names an individual named A Vinoth Kumar as the director.
Follwing the controversy, a clarification had arrived earlier regarding the issue. Critically acclaimed filmmaker Pa Ranjith is well-known for encouraging young aspiring talents in the film industry. Significantly, he had accepted the request to unveil the first look of 'Anbuselvan'. However, due to some unexpected issues created through Gautham Vasudev Menon's tweet, Pa Ranjith sir is being constantly enquired by few press and media personalities.
It was clarified that Pa Ranjith is no way related to the project and that he revealed the first look only to encourage those who are handling PR works for this film. Requesting press and media personalities not to involve his name in this issue, it was informed that Producer M Magesh of Seventy MM Studios will be soon resolving this issue with the intervention of Tamil Film Producer Council. It was also noted that the first schedule of the film involving the episodes of Gautham Vasudev Menon had been already completed. The production house also unveiled a glimpse from the film.
