A cinema hall in Anjad town in Madhya Pradesh was reportedly vandalised on Sunday night for screening the Padmavati movie’s trailer. This incident adds to the long list of controversies that the film has been facing.
According to the reports, the trailer of Padmavati started playing at around 10pm in between another film that was being screened via satellite. It has been clarified that the airing was unintentional. However, local Rajput Karni Sena activists vandalized the cinema hall for playing the trailer. Police reportedly controlled the situation but a case is yet to be registered.
Historical big-budget Bollywood film Padmavati has been in the headlines for the past few days. Many prominent celebrities have come forward to support the film while some of the political leaders have expressed their displeasure.
Politician H Raja opens up about this issue, “When you make a film based on a historical event, you should not twist or falsify it. You cannot make a misappropriate dance video of queen Padmavati. Tomorrow, will they make a cinema featuring Mumtaj and Chatrapathi Sivaji dancing together? What shameful act this is? I wonder how Kamal Haasan encouraged this film? I guess Kamal has made it a point to support all perverted ideas. I don't think this is right. A historical event should never be distorted."
