The Jungle book began its streak on the 15th of April in India with promising positive reviews from critics and audience. The movie received a grand opening in the Chennai city Box Office as per Behindwoods box office analysis report. This latest version of Rudyard Kipling’s literary masterpiece was directed by Jon Favreau and had 13 year old Neel Sethi playing the lead as Mowgli. The movie collected close to 90 lakhs in its opening weekend alone in the Chennai city Box Office.
What must be noted, is The Jungle Book had heavy competition at Chennai’s box office with previous week’s Batman Vs Superman and subsequent releases such as Theri, Captain America: Civil War, 24, and Manithan. Amidst such strong competition, the movie continued to collect close to 2.2 crores (all figures are estimations, not confirmed) at the Chennai city box office and was declared a blockbuster in its third week according to Behindwoods box office report for Chennai city limit. It is also the first English blockbuster in Chennai in 2016. Credits to the makers for producing a movie that caters not only to child audience, but for all age groups are due.
