After a long wait, Vijay fans have been gifted with the teaser of Thalapathy’s next film Sarkar. The film is directed by AR Murugadoss and has Keerthy Suresh as the female lead. Here is a review of the 1 minute 33 seconds long teaser:
It has bits of dance and peppy song moments, mass dialogues and more importantly Vijay’s charismatic screen presence. The first few shots of the teaser show Thalapathy’s one side, that of a rich, classy businessman. He does carry that look with absolute ease.
As the teaser progresses, they show Thalapathy Vijay transform into a monster of sorts, that gobbles up anything on it’s way. The only difference is that, here the masses are behind the monster. While the characterization of the villains looked a bit weak in his previous films barring Mersal, that seems to have been resolved here.
Varalaxmi Sarathkumar looks very different, in a positive way. In fact the teaser starts with her powerful voiceover that describes Vijay's characterization. Radha Ravi and Pala Karuppaiah’s roles too look moulded well. When there is a single villain in Thalapathy’s films, the lack of proper characterization is compensated well by churning out mass action scenes. Sarkar has 3 villains. We can only guess how 'massy' it is going to be. There is no shortage of fight scenes. Ram-Lakshman’s stunt choreography has done the job to lift the quality of the teaser.
On the technical side, a lot has to be said about Rahman and Girish Gangadharan’s work. Ever since the audio released, Vijay fans were curious about how this experimental album was going to fit the bill. Watching the teaser, they will have to change their minds. Girish Gangadharan’s framing, slow motion shots and the yellow-ish lighting complement the film quite well, especially the businessman Vijay scenes look rich.
We are certainly in for a Sarkar Treat from Thalapathy and Murugadoss this Diwali. When it comes to YouTube records, Vijay fans can proudly tell other fans: “Innum oru naal la enna laam maarum, maara pogudhu nu orama ninnu vedikkai mattum paaru, I’m a YouTube criminal!” Idhu dhan namma Sarkaaaar!!!
