Team 2 Point 0 (Enthiran2) came up with a striking announcement last Sunday (20th Nov) saying that the film will hit the screens for Diwali 2017. Next year, Diwali falls on the 18th of October which happens to be a Wednesday, thereby giving the film a solid 5-day opening weekend. What a great release window would that be for a grand film like 2.0? It must be noted that the first edition of Enthiran was also released in the month of October (Oct 1st 2010).
When it comes to a Superstar film, a solo release is inevitable. That is how it has been for the past 11 years. The last time a Rajinikanth film had a contender was back in 2005 when Vijay’s Sachien and Kamal Haasan’s Mumbai Express were released along with Rajini’s Chandramukhi.
Since then, no notable films have clashed with a Rajinikanth film. Will this trend continue with 2 Point 0 as well? This time being a Diwali release, many filmmakers would have already eyed that 2017 Diwali slot. Now that 2 Point 0’s release date is official, that date will be reserved only for Rajini, or will the release window occupy another slot or two?
There are some speculations that say Thalapathy 61 might look for a Diwali slot. This was even before the official confirmation of Vijay 61 was made. But going by unconfirmed reports which say Thalapathy 61 might start rolling by early 2017, Diwali slot would be ideal for them to make use of.
We think the makers of Vijay 61 might have thought about Diwali 2017 plans at some point. In case they had a plan of that sort, will they release Thalapathy 61 along with 2.0? If it happens Vijay would be the only actor to clash with a Superstar film twice in 2 decades. Let us wait and watch!
