Actor Rajinikanth began his journey by playing villainous and supporting roles before graduating to a lead actor. He started off in K Balachander's Apoorva Raagangal, though it was a minor role. His stern and imposing figure and sharp looks accentuated his villainous roles, thus etching a mark of his own.
Rajinikanth's first movie as a solo hero in Tamil cinema was Bairavi, which featured Sripriya in the lead role. The movie was directed by M Bhaskar. From this movie, Rajinikanth was titled 'Superstar'. From then on, the actor's style and expressive acting lead to steeping successes, making him one of the top stars of Tamil Cinema.
The Superstar's bollywood debut was through the Hindi remake of Sattam Oru Iruttarai, titled 'Andha Kanoon', Rajinikanth, Hema Malini and Reena Roy in leading roles and featuring an ensemble cast of actors in villain roles including Amrish Puri, Amitabh Bachchan (who played a special appearance) while Madhavi and Dharmendra also appear in guest roles.
The actor has also acted across Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages among many others, his latest being Petta, in which he acted alongside Simran and Trisha.
