Tamil Nadu State Film Awards are given for excellence in Tamil cinema. It is a prestigious Award. The awards are decided by a committee headed by a judge.
The government has now announced the awards for the years 2009 - 2014. Here is a list of Best Director.

2010 - Prabhu Solomon (Myna)
2011 - Vijay (Deiva Thirumagal)
2012 - Balaji Sathivel (Vazhakku Enn 18/9)
2013 - Ram (Thangameengal)
2014 - Raghavan (Manja Pai)
