Actor Suriya, who is currently awaiting the release of his next film ‘Soorarai Pottru’, is also producing films side-by-side under his banner 2D Entertainment. His latest production venture is ‘Pon Magal Vandhal’, which stars his better half Jyothika in the lead role.
Meanwhile, with the current ongoing nationwide lockdown, all the theatres in the country have been closed for over a month now. With the CoronaVirus situation in the country not seeming to end, it will take quite some time for theatres to be open again.
The latest buzz on the internet is that Jo’s ‘Pon Magal Vandhal’ will not have a theatrical release and will be directly released on the OTT platform Amazon Prime.
Reacting to the news, the Theatre Owners Association of Tamilnadu General Secretary Panneer Selvam has released a video saying “We condemn this move. If Jyothika’s Pon Magal Vandhal releases in OTT before having a theatrical release, none of his 2D Entertainment produced movies will have a theatrical release. Movies shot for releasing in theatres should first be released in theatres and then only released in OTT platforms.”
Producer J Sathish Kumar of JSK Film Corporation has supported the move of releasing the movie on an OTT platform. பட தயாரிப்பும் ஒரு வியாபாரம் அதில் தொழில் சுதந்திரம் தேவை எப்படி வியாபாரம் செய்ய வேண்டும் எண்பது தயாரிப்பாளரின் முடிவே #wesupport ” (“ ‘PonMagal Vandhal movie releasing in @PrimeVideoIN news makes me happy, best wishes to @2D_ENTPVTLTD @Suriya_offl. Movie making is also a business and Industry Independence is a must. How to market the business is at the producer’s discretion.”)
Reacting to the incident, 2D Entertainment’s co-producer Rajsekar Pandian thanked J Sathish Kumar for his support. This confirms that Jyothika’s ‘Pon Magal Vandhal’ will have an OTT release. An official update on the release date is awaited. Stay tuned.
