Ace filmmaker, Mani Ratnam had last worked on Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, that had an ensemble cast which includes Simbu, Vijay Sethupathi, Arun Vijay, Arvind Swami, Jyothika, Aditi Rao Hydari, Dayana Erappa and Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead roles. The film was produced by Mani Ratnam himself, and Subaskaran under the banners Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions respectively.
The movie buffs were in a great shock when the news of him being admitted in a hospital yesterday after suffering from chest pain, in social media were doing rounds. However, the rumours were put to rest when there was an official clarification that the news was false.
Taking to her Twitter, his wife, Suhasini Mani Ratnam finally broke her silence on the rumours and posted an official update, "my husband went to work at 9.30 am this morning...I had a work shop for naam women at home...rupa a naam trust coach brought yum roti and mango pickle..he loved it and went back to office to add more spice to his script..."

The filmmaker is currently busy working on his dream project, Ponniyin Selvan, that is in the pre-production stage now. It was earlier reported that Aishwarya Rai will be seen essaying one of the leads. The other actors who are a part of the film, are yet to be known.
