It’s a well-known fact that women directors have never had it easy in any film Industry. The ratio of women directors to men in the industry is way lesser. Apart from adorning the role of an actress or a character artist, women aren’t given many chances to show their prowess in other fields/aspects of filmmaking.
Despite many hurdles, once in a blue moon, we have someone who wins as a commercial director too. This eventually makes the female population stand proud. Sudha Kongara, of Irudhi Suttru is one such director who is chirpy about the laudable success of Irudhi Suttru. Our Chennai city Box-office report has declared a ’HIT’ verdict to this boxing based mesmerising film.
When contacted she states, “Now that you see that I could garner commercial success too, why refer to me as a ‘lady director’, I suppose just director is good”. Ah, talk about nailing it!
Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi Stalin who made a mark with Vanakkam Chennai also agrees with her.“I made a safe decision of choosing a romcom for my debut. Now that Irudhi Suttru is a success I am going to experiment boldly for my next venture”, she states.
Hope this continues to inspire many other aspiring directors - men and women! Good content with right intentions is what impresses the box-office. Long gone are the days where the gender of the filmmaker affected the outcome of a film. Irudhi Suttru stands as testimony to this revived fact.
Thank you Sudha Kongara, Behindwoods is indeed proud of you.
