Before you get all excited, we are talking about the Chinese box office which was one of the major markets to return to business with 50 percent occupancy. Now, it has been reported that the same would be increased to 75 percent from September 25.
The decision has been taken since covid related restrictions have come down. This might benefit the theatres since big releases like Tenet and Mulan are expected to bring in a huge influx of business.
About nine major releases have been lined up for the box office clash. Major areas in theatres, at present, are being sprayed down twice a day. Toilets are being wiped down five times a day.
As far as the Indian box office is concerned, there has been no definite word on when theatres would be allowed to reopen and in case, they reopen, what sort of regulations would be followed. This is particularly interesting considering a lot of Hollywood films have a considerable market in India and now that it has been announced that No Time to Die has been scheduled for a worldwide November release, haven't the makers considered the Indian market at all? Time would tell.
