Top Indian DOP Santosh Sivan shares the exclusive details about the making of Superstar Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam's epic movie Thalapathi, the nuances of the details and how the Mahabharata metaphors were infused.
Santosh Sivan is one of the most celebrated cinematographers of India. He has worked in almost all the prominent languages of India. He has also tried his hand at direction, production and acting. His latest project was Rajinikanth's Darbar, which was released on the 9th of January, 2020.
In an exclusive interview to Behindwoods along with Director Rajiv Menon, Santosh Sivan had explained how he had brought in the details of Thalapathi movie with respect to the epic Mahabharata story, which the movie's storyline resembled.
Silhouette technique was used for major scenes to depict Karna's story in adherence to Rajini's character, Santosh Sivan said. Because Karna was the son of Sun God, bringing in the sun in the backdrop of certain frames added more significance and hence the depiction of Mahabharata metaphors were able to be inducted in the movie.
