Actor Sampath, who is known for his versatility, has been a happy man ever since his debut short film Pachondi released. It is his directorial debut and had been made as a 3-minute short film for a big contest. Talking to us about Pachondi and future plans to direct, Sampath said:
“The response for Pachondi has been great. Not just from those inside the industry but also from outsiders who watched it. It is being widely appreciated as we have managed to tell an important story in 3 minutes. Workplace harassment is something common and has to be addressed.
We have plans of directing a feature film soon. Myself and two of my friends have been writing scripts and the process is on. One of them is Raju based in USA However, we will be directing 3 more short films first. The most important thing in filmmaking is pre production. It is sad that it is not given due importance here. I hope the new stream of filmmakers realise its importance to avoid any kind of wastage of time and footage. With a properly chalked out plan, the shooting process would be such a breeze.
Also, a good writer does not necessarily have to direct. I hope the due importance is given to writers and that particular department flourishes. Writing is an art on its own and there are many talented writers out there. My forte is acting and I believe that will remain my strength. As for writing and directing, work is going on with respect to those and we have a nice team that is working to tell people different kinds of stories based on our experiences. The basic idea is to tell it in a light-hearted manner for people to consume and enjoy. Really excited about it.”
