OSCAR 2022: SAMANTHA REACTS TO WILL SMITH-CHRIS ROCK’S SLAPGATE INCIDENT!

One of the events that took place at the 94th Academy Awards yesterday grabbed several attention. Actor Chris Rock, who came to announce the award for Best Documentary, joked about Will Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith's hair (she had shaved off her hair recently due to a health problem). This enraged Will Smith, who went to the stage and slapped Chris Rock. He then angrily shouted ‘Stop saying my wife’s name’ and went to his seat. Will Smith's outburst caused the Oscars stage to be abuzz with embarrassment for a few seconds. Chris Rock then took to the stage, saying, "This is going to be one of the most important nights in the history of television."

Will Smith has now issued a statement regretting his action, as the incident has sparked much controversy around the world. His statement read, "Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us."

Actress Samantha has reacted to the incident and shared a post by Yuva. The post talks about understanding comedy and masculinity. The post talked about Jada’s condition of alopecia. It is said that alopecia is an auto-immune disease. Jada has been vocal about her condition, as you know. The post said that in a world where women’s beauty is often tied to their hair, the situation was delicate for them. It further said that no comedian should make fun of someone’s appearance. When comedians make jokes that degrade or offend someone, it is called ‘punching down’. However, the Post also denounced Will Smith’s reaction and linked it to toxic masculinity. The post states that “it is a crime to attack a person, however wrong or objectionable they may be.” Toxic masculinity portrays men as ‘patrons’ through violence. It also included suggestive steps that may have been taken after Chris joked about Will Jada’s hair.
