It has been 14 years since Venkat Prabhu's debut directorial movie 'Chennai 600028' was released and the movie still evokes rib-cracking laughter among youngsters. The movie, which spoke about many elements of life including friendship, love, cricket and rivalry, gave a push to actors like Mirchi Shiva, Jai, Nithin Sathya, Aravind Akash, Vijayalakshmi, and many others who were just at the start of their acting career.
Several years after the success of the film, a sequel for the movie which was named 'Chennai 600028 II: Second Innings' was released in the year 2016. Both the movies emerged as a major commercial success. The crux and the emotional attachment in the film can be attributed to Gopi's bat (Vijay Vasanth plays the role). During the first movie, Gopi loses his bat in a bet and he was seen inconsolable because he was so attached it. The team then wins it back in the sequel.
This time, however, the story is different. Nithin Sathya, who played the role of Pazhani in both the movies has now "flicked" it. He clicked a picture of the famous 'Gopi' bat and shared it on social media.

Fans of the Chennai 600028 movie series who got nostalgic, asked Director Venkat Prabhu as to when the third part of the movie would be released. Vijay Vasanth, who acted in several movies, is currently the MP of Kanniyakumari constituency.
