SUPERSTAR RAJINIKANTH - ONLY THE 7TH, IN 6 DECADES

Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award bestowed by the country, is no mean task to achieve. With Superstar Rajinikanth being honoured with the award this year, after a Padma Bhushan in the year 2000, we take this opportunity to look back on the Winners of Padma Vibhushan, who were suggested by Tamil Nadu, in the Arts category. 

 

It must be noted that Rajinikanth is the 7th person to win Padma Vibhushan in the Arts Category. The other 6 winners, suggested by Tamil Nadu were - 

 

1975- M. S. Subbulakshmi (Also received her Bharat Ratna in 1998)

1977- T. Balasaraswati

1990- Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer

1991- M. Balamuralikrishna

1999- D.K. Pattammal

2010- Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman

 

Another highlight is that Rajinikanth is the First Tamil male actor to win the honour.
