A dance troupe from Chennai named “OPM DANCE CREW” won the First Place at the World Of Dance-India qualifiers held in Chennai on May 25th, 2018 and got qualified to compete in the World Championships of World Of Dance where teams from all over the world will compete for the title.
This troupe was formed in 2014 at "Natesan Park" a public land in T-Nagar, as they didn't have a proper place to practice. After a struggling two years, the troupe opened a small studio near WEST SAIDAPET. Now this troupe is all geared up to make India proud.
The World Championships will take place from July 28th to August 1 of 2018 held at Pasadena Civic Centre, Pasadena - California (U.S.A). The troupe from Chennai consist of 18 dancers and their predicted expense for this trip would be around ₹2,00,000 per head which comprises Travel + Visa, Registration, Food and Stay cost. Apparently, this team had qualified for World Championships last year but they couldn't attend the event due to lack of financial support. So they have sought the help of the government and general public.
Dance master turned actor Raghava Lawrence has sponsored ₹ 5 lakhs to the troupe and has also met the Chief Minister seeking for the government's support. Speaking to the media after meeting Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, Lawrence said, "This troupe must attend the World Championship competition this July, if we support them financially, they will make Tamil Nadu proud. This could be a life-changing experience for the entire team. I have requested CM to help this troupe and he assured he will provide all the necessary support."
