After the official statement came from the State Government to levy 10% local body entertainment tax, it became a huge blow for theatre exhibitors.
On that note, theatres in Chennai, which are part of the Multiplex Association of India (MAI), have decided to shut their theatres from today, against this double taxation. Inox and PVR cinemas are the two multiplexes, in Chennai who wouldn't function from today (3rd October). According to MAI's statement, they have said, this LBET goes against the principle of 'One Nation, One tax' and frustrates the GST model.
However, rest of the theatres will function for now, and only after tomorrow's important meeting between the industry associations, a final call would be taken.
Yet another multiplex is all set to be opened, tomorrow at Tirusulam near Chennai Airport. Yes, we are talking about the Grand Galada Centre Mall.
The mall will have a cinema multiplex owned by PVR Cinemas. This would be their third branch in Chennai, after the first two being in Ampa Skywalk (Aminjikarai), and Grand Mall (Velachery). Action King Arjun, along with the Nibunan team will open this new branch of PVR Cinemas tomorrow (21st June) at 4.30PM. This is the first time a celebrity is opening a new branch of PVR in the Southern region.
Get ready to go through a new cinematic experience with the brand new theatre of PVR Cinemas.
